One of the spots worth visiting on Santorini is Vlychada in the southern part of the island. The main attraction is a very quiet beach with cliffs sculpted by the wind resembling a lunar setting. Once you get here it would be worth sitting down for a meal at “Taverna To Psaraki” (the little Fish) which is a simple fish tavern overlooking the port of Vlychada.
From IKIES it is approximately a 30 to 40 minutes drive depending on traffic. The most suitable way to get there is by taxi (or rental car of course). It’s fairly easy to find, but it will be better to ask us for directions. As you are heading towards Vlychada, you turn left just before you reach the port. There is a small sign, but you have to keep an eye out for it. The car can go all the way up to the restaurant and there is a parking lot right behind the building.
It’s not a romantic place, and the view is not the most spectacular one that you can find on Santorini, but it is a very welcoming taverna worth visiting with polite and warm people. Patrons are welcome throughout the day and those trying to avoid peak hours should dine before 17:00.
The food is fresh and delicious. The grilled swordfish has been described as “divine” and the goat cheese with basil sauce is a ‘do not miss’ starter. One of our guests said that the sea urchins were so fresh and tasty that he ordered more for dessert!
As with most tavernas, the menu is set but they always prepare a special dish based on the ‘catch of the day’. They also cater to specific requests as long as we call them a couple of days in advance.
So whether you are in Vlychada or at Perissa or Perivolos beach for a swim, you can head over to “To Psaraki” and enjoy an amazing meal.
